Monthly Update: September 2024

By

Towards the end of September, K’s parents left back to India, and it is always a bitter sweet departure. Suddenly the house gets very quiet, the aroma of spice that permanently hung in the air for a few months slowly diminishes, there is nobody to make tea or coffee when we feel tired. And a wave of sadness washes over us.

But on the other hand, five of us have been living on top of each other, forced to share bathrooms, dealing with a screaming toddler. And more importantly sharing broadband streaming on 8 devices simultaneously (4 phones, 2 laptops working from home, 1 TV for K’s dad to watch cricket, and 1 ipad for K’s mom to watch something that is not cricket). No more dropped videos during meetings and its a sigh of relief. There is only so many times a day I can claim my router is restarting, when my router was just frying.

Other than that, I don’t think we did anything extraordinary in September – just the usual decent weather weekends, taking junior to the park, and eating one too many ice creams. This is reflected in an absolutely normal unremarkable Sankey chart image. And oh ya, we canceled Little Kickers, the local toddler Saturday morning football “class”. We now know our son is definitely not going to have any sporting skills. He stood around class, for the last three months, counting the balls, figuring the odd ball out, counting children, counting teachers, and figuring out the difference in rules between the older children classes and the toddler classes. I expect we have Edison-like child on our hands, and not Messi-like, and thats fine. Atleast we now save £20 a month. We have also tried a few classes of tennis, and that was an instantaneous no. So for now, we cancel, and we can rejoin if he likes it at a later date.
